Goliath Hardwoods
Sapele
Sapele is the exotic world's answer to mahogany — a rich reddish-brown with an interlocked grain that produces a spectacular ribbon or pommelé figure when quartersawn. It's one of the most beautiful cabinet and furniture woods available at a relatively accessible price point. Machines cleanly, glues well, and takes a superb finish. The interlocked grain can cause tearout when planing against the grain, so take light passes. A go-to for anyone wanting that classic mahogany look with more character.
